500 filled Paardekooper bags
for women in Sierra Leone
Together with volunteers from Schoenendoosactie.nl, we developed Treasure Bags for women in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, in West Africa. Thanks to our collaboration, in January we were able to give 500 women in Sierra Leone a Treasure Bag.
The Treasure Bag is a lovely bag filled with essential items, such as a blanket, soap and clothing. The bags are distributed to women who need it most. Often single women, women with disabilities and those in difficult situations. The bag is a real treasure for these women, hence the name 'Treasure Bag'.
Besides its contents, the Treasure Bag itself is very valuable. Not having cupboards, the women can use the bags to store things in and keep them dry during the rainy season. The bags are sturdy and handy for carrying things.
Sponsorship Stichting Jarige Job
Lyanne Paardekooper: ‘Based on our family values, we believe it is important to devote attention to everyone. That’s why it’s important for me personally, and also for the organization, to be socially engaged. As a mother, projects relating to poverty and children particularly affect me. We therefore have a sponsorship policy with extra attention for children and families. Among others, we support Stichting Jarige Job and Sintvoorieder1.’

In 2023 our business looked
as follows:
100 children from the Mariaschool in Den Hoorn were were given a lesson by our truck driver Ferdi. Not in reading or maths, but a ‘blind spot lesson'. Ferdi talked about Paardekooper and what you have to look out for when driving a truck.
Colleague Leo van der Meer hands over the voucher to Stichting Actief Samenleven.
The students were allowed to experience for themselves how high the cab is above the road, which means that both the driver and cyclist need to take great care. Even though the truck has a blind spot mirror, you always need to watch out.
The youngest children also had a lesson. However, because they are not yet allowed to participate in traffic, Ferdi visited the school with his truck.
Stichting Actief Samenleven is an ambitious young foundation that organizes projects and events, mainly for children, adults and the elderly in a vulnerable situation.
So what have our colleagues been doing over the past year?
Ugly Christmas Jumper Day
Harbour Run in Rotterdam
Strong Viking Run in Wijchen
Cycle and the City through The Hague with the staff association
Zumba workshop in Beuningen
Pub quiz in De Lier
Putting the spotlight on colleagues in the Hall of Fame
The Horti division provided 8,000 coloured paper FSC sleeves and ribbons for the 10th hyacinth campaign of Zorgnetwerk AYA, Jong & Kanker.
Growers provided free hyacinths that were packaged in our packaging materials and made into bouquets to sell in hospitals. The proceeds benefit AYA.
Who are the people working daily in the world of packaging?
This is Randy, our Family Man and Product Manager. He prefers to enjoy his cappuccino with a different person each time. Everyone has their own story and is interesting. His biggest sustainability challenge is dealing with plastic. Education on proper use and recycling is part of that. His sustainable guilty pleasure? Still taking that piece of meat, although a little less might be better!

Sustainability report 2023
Our employees are the driving force
As in previous years, Paardekooper chose to donate its budget for corporate gifts to charity. Which one? This was decided through the Charity campaign, in which employees nominated a charity.
The Charity campaign is greatly appreciated by employees who nominated many charities. The 2023 winners:
Besides good working conditions for our own employees, good working conditions for employees in our chains are also important. In 2023, for example, we made a conscious decision to focus on high-risk countries. We will continue to promote transparent and fair chains in the future.
Knowledge is power, but sharing knowledge is even more power! The complex world of packaging is always evolving.
For that reason, we devote a lot of attention to the education and training of our people, because by maintaining high knowledge levels, we can provide our customers with the best advice.
OUR PEOPLE
As a family business, we believe it is important to keep developing ourselves and our employees. Their knowledge and expertise is the main driving force of our organization. Besides our own colleagues, we also enjoy working with students - because they are the packers of the future!
