Recylution

Collecting plastic waste often involves costs. Paardekooper proves that this can be done differently with Recylution, a smart recycling process for plastic. This solution has been available to our horticultural customers for some time; the solution was rolled out in 2024 to catering and cleaning wholesalers, among others.

Customers collect their plastic commercial waste, including films and plastic covers, in our specially developed CircularBag. We collect it, our recycling partner Circular Plastics turns it into new raw materials, and they are then used for new products such as flower sleeves, PowerSterko waste bags and CircularBags. This high-quality recycling means less new plastic is used and Paardekooper, together with its customers, can make a positive contribution to the environment.

By 2030, 40% of all non-food e-commerce packaging in the EU must be reusable, with the exception of cardboard boxes. This requires new systems and collaboration within logistics chains. We were awarded a grant in 2024 for a circular chain breakthrough project in this area. Our reusable e-commerce shipping packaging, combined with the innovative return system of our chain partner BOXO Return, allows us to help our customers make their shipments more sustainable.

This system allows the consumer to choose reusable packaging with a deposit when ordering. They can then use this when returning the order or handing it in at a drop-off point so the consumer receives the deposit back.

A total solution of reusable shipping packaging, including return transport, has up to 70% lower carbon emissions and uses much less water than single-use cardboard packaging in the production process (source).
